Healing - Making Dreams a Reality
by Ritu Bhatia
I heard about theta healing from Dr Sangeeta Sahi, a friend I hadn't met in years. "Ritu, it's the most exciting thing I've learned in my life," she exclaimed. "What is it?" I asked. "It's called theta healing," announced Sangeeta, promptly inviting me to a talk she was giving at the Escorts Heart Institute.
Sangeeta's lecture about theta healing was very esoteric. She called it quantum medicine, describing it as a way of connecting to God's power and using it to heal and create. She claimed it was also a way of changing our lives at many levels - our thoughts and beliefs, and also our ways of being. "I don't get it!" I retorted, "On one hand you say it can heal illnesses and on another you say we can fix ourselves and others using this. How can all this happen?" To Sangeeta's credit, she didn't defend herself. She just looked at me straight in the eye and said, "Theta healing can be used for just about anything."
To understand theta healing, one must understand the way brain waves work. There are four main brain wave frequencies: beta, alpha, theta and delta. Beta waves (13+ Hz) travel the fastest, and represent a state of activity and awareness. Alpha waves (7-12 Hz) are a bit slower and our brains are frequently in this state during meditation and relaxation. Theta waves (4-7 Hz) represent a very deep state of relaxation, for example, a hypnotic trance. Meditators spend hours trying to achieve this condition of calm. Delta waves (below 4 Hz) are the slowest and operate while we are in deep sleep.
The theta state is significant because it bridges the gap between the conscious and unconscious mind. Theta waves function at the level of the subconscious, the layer which holds memories, beliefs, behaviors and sensations. So, the theta state is one of inspiration and heightened creativity and that sense of pure knowingness and connection with everything. Theta healing works on the premise that we all carry around programmed behavior in our genes and DNA. This translates into our beliefs about ourselves and our environment and creates our reality on a daily level. In the theta state, it is possible to reprogram the recipient's belief systems at the deepest level.
Less than a decade old, the technique of theta healing was discovered by Vianna Stibal, a medical intuitive and naturopathic healer. Sick with bone cancer, she tried many different methods to cure herself. In a bid to save her leg from being amputated, she sent a plea to the Creator and heard a voice booming in response, "Vianna, you are here with or without a leg, so deal with it." She was shocked at hearing this message but she still believed she could heal herself with the Creator's help. She used the technique she had used successfully to cure others of ailments - going up and then entering her own body to witness a healing - and found that the pain in her leg was considerably subdued. The cancer went into remission and all was well. Since that time she has used this procedure to cure thousands of people.
In the midst of my own fight with a writer's block, I went home after Sangeeta's lecture, struggling with skepticism and hope all at once. On the one hand, it was the most exciting time of my life as I had finally got a contract with a publisher to write a collection of short stories. On the other, it was also the most frustrating. Not a single idea flowed from my head, and my pen also refused to co-operate. I was stuck! So a week later, out of sheer desperation, I called Sangeeta and told her about my problem. I asked if theta healing could help me with this. A session was arranged and I found it illuminating in many ways.
Sangeeta and I sat facing each other, and I told her about my inability to write. While I was talking I began to see the place of this block in the overall situation in my life. The basic message repeating itself in my mind almost daily was: Life is hard. After I told her about this, Sangeeta held my hands, shut her eyes, and sought my permission to work on me. She then went into what seemed like a meditative trance and soon, I too lost myself in the same. When she opened her eyes, she described some other scripts - results of conditioning, history, etc - that were connected to my inability to write. To test whether or not these were accurate, she did muscle testing. Then, she held my hands again and replaced some of the self-defeating ideas in my head with new ones. Life is hard, for example, was replaced with There is an ease and flow in my life.
Theta healing is performed when both, the client and practitioner, are in the theta state. They call upon the Creator, Source of all that is, or any other suitable label for God and witness the healing. Using God's vibration, health giving, empowering programs are activated in our DNA. "This is a technology of self-responsibility," asserts Sangeeta. "It works on the basis that you are responsible for creating and re-creating your own reality and your own health."
At one level, this seems very simplistic. But the transformation this brought about in my life was almost immediate. While theta healing seems no different in principle from other forms of energy healing, the results are profound and can be felt almost immediately. It began with the healing of a relationship that had ended with a bitter parting. I connected with this friend a day later and felt the release of tension that comes when you confront something you have been avoiding. It was so easy really! The tension that accompanied the act of writing also began to dissipate. Though slow and halting, my pen began to move.
Convinced of its power, I enrolled for the basic workshop conducted by Sangeeta a fortnight later. Sangeeta had made it amply clear that this was a method based on self-responsibility and the idea that we could create and manifest anything we wanted in our lives. This is a very powerful notion and excited every participant.
The basic DNA seminar - the introductory course to theta healing techniques - activates the 12 strands of DNA within each participant. The 'chronos,' or youth and vitality chromosome is activated, the telomeres are strengthened to reverse the aging process and students experience a deeper opening of the heart and clarity of the mind. Some other benefits of theta healing include the enhancement of creativity and balancing of serotonin and noradrenalin levels.
The course taught the practice of techniques that would allow any of us to change life patterns held in place by core, genetic, historic and soul beliefs that are part of our makeup. We learned to identify our own beliefs as well as those of others. Excavating these from the deepest levels of our beings, and for others in the class, was the second step. This practice revealed systems of belief that would probably take traditional psychotherapy years to uncover, showing the body how to replace limiting beliefs or feelings with positive ones.
Other topics and exercises included learning discernment when working with guides and guardian angels, an introduction to the laws of manifestation, doing future readings, soul mates and the protocols for witnessing the healing of a variety of conditions and imbalances.
Visualization - witnessing healing and events - is key to practicing theta work successfully. This skill must be developed with daily practice. In the beginning there is a feeling of confusion between what one perceives as 'made up' or 'imaginary' as opposed to the true vision appearing during a reading. While intention is certainly relevant in creating reality, this, combined with the process of witnessing the co-creative energy in the body of your client or your own, has the power to create situations that you had only dreamed of!
Four months later, the group of ten people - the first practitioners of theta healing in India - met to discuss its impact on their lives. While some were using this to improve the quality of their own existence, others were using it to help and heal other people too. Pratibha, a fashion designer, said it had changed many of her relationships. "I am one of those people who are constantly unhappy with things, but after I learned to practice theta healing I feel very different, " she explained.
For Ranjiv, the practice had added to his skills of healing based on chakras and he said he had 'cured' many people of ailments ranging from diabetes to asthma. Shivi said she had helped to avert the break-up of a marriage - this, by conducting intensive theta sessions on husband and wife separately, to enable them to discover the beliefs they were holding on to, that were detrimental to the relationship. The stories were many and varied. When it came to my turn, I told everyone that the major shift I was experiencing had to do with a sense of power. Suddenly I felt as if anything was possible. It was totally up to me to create good relationships or bad ones, a peaceful life or one ridden with angst.
It is that sense of possibility that I re-experience every morning or evening when I go into theta state and create an image of what I would like manifested in my life. It seems almost surreal to watch my own reality transforming; seeing my vision in theta state manifest in my life almost every single day is like experiencing a miracle!
