Healing - The wonders of energy medicine
by Vijaylakshmi Nadar
A patient undergoes diagnosis via the ESTECK machine, which provides
a complete physiological as well as emotional health report. Wikipedia dismisses energy medicine as hogwash, with ‘no evidence to support its clinical efficacy.’ That is, in short, the viewpoint also of the scientific community, medical fraternity, and mainstream society.
And yet, that is not the end of the story. Indeed, it could well be the beginning. Energy medicine has been around for 5000 years and bio-chemicals only for the last hundred, according to Dr Norm Shealy, father of holistic medicine. In the documentary film, The Secret Code (available on YouTube), he talks of how there is a place for modern medicine and surgery, like in instances of bacterial meningitis, where you need drugs to flush the bacteria out, and in painful conditions like appendicitis, where surgery is the only alternative. However, about 80-85 per cent of the patients suffer needless medication and surgery, which more often than not worsens the cases, according to him. Drugs are woefully inadequate in treating conditions of pain and depression, ‘because it is so much easier for the patients to say that they suffer from back pain rather than a painful life.’ In such cases, the patient needs to be treated holistically, where not only his physical symptoms, but also mental conditions and lifestyle are taken into account.
Today, more and more healers bear out his premise. Among the most prominent of these is Dr Thornton Streeter, director of The Centre for Biofield Sciences, with branches both in UK and Pune. Thanks to energy scientists like Dr Streeter, research is being conducted on the subject of energy diagnostics and healing, in search of the evidence needed to appease the scientific community, and to prove the efficacy of using ‘light rather than a hammer,’ to access and heal the darkest recesses of a human body.
“Modern medicine is focused on the disease rather than the patient, not realising that human beings are so much more than just the physical self. There is no point in focussing on just getting the cancer out without addressing the issues that manifested the cancer. That is the reason why there are high incidences of cancer coming right back, because of underlying issues like lack of self-worth. Modern medicine as we know it today has too many shortcomings despite the prohibitive cost,” says Dr Streeter.
The term ‘energy medicine’ derives from the premise, now scientifically documented, that there are subtle, biological energies that surround and permeate the body. These energies can be accessed through non-invasive diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, thus addressing the individual as a whole, and not just focusing on the diseased area.
Thornton Streeter: Healing through energy Though the chair that we sit on feels solid, it is composed of tiny atomic and sub-atomic particles that are held together by atomic and sub-atomic forces, and can therefore be described in terms of energy through quantum equations. The equations apply to biological matter also, which is not taken into account by modern medicine, based on Newtonian principles.
Treasures from the ancient world
The Biofield viewer: a valuable diagnostic tool Energy medicine practitioners in India, China, and the rest of the world, have been saying for many centuries that there is a physical body and an energy body. They are not mutually exclusive. The bio-energy body is said to surround and penetrate the physical body, and interact with it. Energy medicine practitioners therefore provide treatment through the energy body, thereby influencing not just the physical body, but also the mind and the emotions it triggers, and improving interpersonal relationships too. One of the key benefits of such therapies is that patients experience an inner peace and reconnection with their spiritual or religious roots, especially with practices like meditation. This aspect of energy medicine is especially helpful to patients who are dealing with serious or terminal illnesses.
“Though psychology has been around many years, it is not half as effective as energy psychology with its array of meridian-based therapies like Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), which has proved extremely effective in relieving anxieties, severe emotional traumas, pains and allergies,” says Dr Streeter.
After his studies in India, at the Zoroastrian College, Mumbai, in esoteric sciences, through a United Nations (UN) initiative, he established the Centre for Biofield Sciences (CBS), in Pune in 1998. He developed an array of non-invasive, safe, radiation-free, bio-field imaging tools that are sensitive enough to pick every aspect of a human being’s physical and mental health. “I have personally trained more than 500 doctors and other healthcare professionals to use these bio-field imaging tools,” he says.
Dr Streeter is also focused on spreading awareness among hospitals and has scored major victories by associating with Gangaram and Medanta in Delhi, with doctors like Dr Naresh Trehan taking keen interest in his work.
He is also attempting to educate industry on issues like radiation from mobiles, laptops, or unhealthy practices like coating the insides of shoes with fungicides, and dental amalgams, all of which are deleterious to health. Energy medicine technology can also make allopathic medicines healthier by removing their etheric toxicity with reiki and other measures.
Health graph in minutes
Among the many non-invasive diagnostic tools used at the centre is the Electro Sensor Complex device, called the ESTECK or EIS (Electro Interstitial Scan). With the help of electrodes, on which you simply place your hands and feet in a sitting position, you get both a complete physiological as well as emotional health report, something which conventional diagnostics do not do. This tool is so sensitive that it can predict the start of almost all lifestyle-related diseases like stress-related disorders, diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, stressed joints, and arthritis, about seven years before it shows up in medical reports. It can also pick up diseases like ADHD and migraines.
The wonder of the technology is that it takes the guessing game out of the healing process, according to Dr Streeter. We can monitor differences before and after treatment with conventional drugs and surgery, but also complementary modalities like homeopathy, ayurveda, acupuncture, acupressure, and other esoteric treatment methods like reiki, EFT, Body Talk, and even yoga. It would help the patient make a more informed choice of the modality that best suits him or her, long before the disease wastes the human body away.
In this tool, a barely discernible electric current is passed through the body, through one or more surface electrodes. A drop in voltage occurs as the current encounters impedance or resistance in the fluids and tissues as it courses through various physiological compartments of the body. The drop in voltage then provides indirect information about the physical and chemical properties of the compartment that the current passed through. Further medical tests are then advised to correlate in case of severity.
EIS, a programmable electro-medical system, measures physiological parameters and is similar to ECG and EEG, but instead of supplying information of the heart and brain only, it measures electro physiological properties of 22 different volumes within the body and comes up with 69 different physiological parameters in one single test, lasting less than ten minutes. At the end of the screening, after assessment, the software also throws up different treatment options in homeopathy, acupuncture, and acupressure, offers a diet plan and suggests lifestyle changes. Presently about 1,500 clinics worldwide use this method, which has been clinically tested and FDA approved. “The machine has been perfected over the last four years at the centre itself, and has replaced the tissue fluid analysis with a pulse oxymeter now, which does more than just measure oxygen levels in the blood, as used in conventional medicine,” says Dr Aniruddha Gandhi, Pune-based homeopath, who has integrated this testing in his practice. When I underwent this test at the centre, it laid my fears at rest. A not-so-healthy diet, no exercise, and stress in personal and professional life, had still not made any serious dent in my health. Except insulin resistance, which, if ignored, puts me at risk of diabetes after 15-20 years, giving me sufficient time to make necessary lifestyle changes. The valuable screening costs just Rs 1000 at the research centre. Compare this to a full body checkup done at major hospitals with an array of blood tests and urine tests, ECG, EEG, x-rays, plus an overnight stay, setting the patient back by quite a few thousands. The worst fallout being that these so-called clinically perfect tools can pick up diseases only after they have manifested, not the ones likely to manifest even in the next couple of years. Which one would you prefer, if given a choice?
It is in the chakras
The institute also promotes the Biofield Viewer, a revolutionary scanner, which gives an inside view of the human body without any surgical intervention, and is a valuable diagnostic tool to pick up the first signs of a diseased condition, eight years before it actually manifests. This viewer throws up multi-colour images of the chakras or energy centres of the person, which has so far only been considered as part of the subtle energy of the individual, something that you ‘sense’ only as you rise in consciousness spiritually.
“So it is no longer mumbo jumbo for today’s generation, who can now actually see the chakras and the gossamer-like naadis (energy channels) all esoteric terms, not usually associated with medical conditions, but now accepted as part of the endocrine system,” says Dr Streeter. The energy field changes with any changes in the physical and mental level, all of which can, however, be monitored. Not only can the healing powers of the body be observed, the multi-dimensional, multi-colour auric pictures take the guesswork off the spiritual, emotional, and mental growth of the individual. When changes are adverse, resulting in ill health, then it becomes an excellent diagnostic tool, and gives off warning signals, before the disease has actually set in, for which preventive measures can then be taken.
The only discomfort it entails to the patient is stripping to the minimum, while a trained technician uses a normal camera to capture images of the full frontal, back and legs of the individual, under a full spectrum tube light. The software then translates the energy captured by the camera into a temperature measurement, which is not necessarily the actual temperature, since there is no contact with the skin. The temperature is then assigned a colour scale, also controlled by the software.
Thermography, or Medical Thermal Imaging (MTI), is a deceptively simple non-invasive, radiation-free diagnostic tool, to detect among other things, breast cancer. All that the ordinary-looking box camera does is to capture the top half of the frontal body and back body, from a distance to record the energy emanating from the bare body. The resultant multi-coloured scan predicts the onset of breast cancer, the most prevalent cancer among women, eight years before it actually manifests, by picking up any unusual activity in the breasts. Detection that early gives enough time to the patients to not only weigh in treatment options, but also to work on their sense of self-worth, and other underlying emotional issues, which reflect in physical manifestation, eliminating the possibility of it developing into full-fledged cancer.
Compare this to the current scare unleashed by the pharmaceutical industry, doctors, and other healthcare professionals...While women are often urged to feel themselves for an unusual lump, or get a clinical exam for lumps, it is ineffective because by the time a lump is detected, the cancer is too advanced. The screening process also includes mammograms, which entails the breasts being squeezed between plates for as many as 30 to 40 x-rays. This is recommended to be repeated once in two years. The frequent mammograms itself then induces a small amount of radiation each time which causes the very problem that they are trying to eliminate. As H Gilbert Welch of the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice, wrote in the New York Times, “Six years ago, a long-term follow-up of a randomised trial showed that about one-quarter of cancers detected by screening were over-diagnosed.” Though one-third of the cancers are non-life-threatening and may recede on their own, the over-diagnosis leads to unnecessary slicing off women’s breasts, inducing chemotherapy, and destroying their kidneys, livers, and brains. MTI, therefore, provides a more humane alternative, reducing the fear that is associated with breast cancer significantly.
