Quite unlike a modern day hospital, RK Nature Cure Home has created a home-like environment without any smell of drugs. A leading nature cure institute in Tamil Nadu set up over 24 years ago, it treats patients with naturopathic principles based on science and promotes the values of a healthy life.

The approach is holistic. Daily practice of Agnihotra, prayer, yoga and meditation takes care of the mental and spiritual aspects.

The Home was established in 1978 in Coimbatore by Dr R. Krishnaswamy Gounder. He became a convert when naturopathy cured a severe stomach ache he suffered from after he read about the system in a book by Mahatma Gandhi.

He later travelled in India and abroad to collect valuable information about nature cure. Today, RK Nautre Cure Home has a 60-bed capacity. They also treat a sizeable number of out-patients.

Says K. Ramasamy, chairman of the Roots group of companies that manages the Home: ‘‘The most common problem patients come to us for is obesity. But they come after having tried all the methods for weight reduction. We introduce them to the real problems, which have to be overcome in their daily activities.’’

The Home has modified certain aspects of fasting ‘‘which makes it enjoyable and compatible to the patients’’, says Ramasamy. He also states that in many cases of disc-prolapse, for which surgery is advised, they have been able to reverse the degeneration by nature cure.

Individualised programmes on fasting, diet correction, yoga and natural therapies are also prescribed. All treatment is provided under the supervision of medically qualified doctors.
