Question 11. I am 34 yrs old. I have been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Kindly help me with the nutrition part to delay further attacks.  - Kamaljit Jaiya

As I've been repeating food is important but not the only thing needed to be changed in order to keep well. So please look at other causes of why you are in this situation. Deal with any fears you may have. Find ways of being joyous & loving. Know that you are safe just by being part of this universe.

I would recommend doing a short vedic puja called Agnihotra. It needs to be done daily if possible. This can have a greatly influence your body's capacity to heal. Check it out at agnihotraindia.com

Eat a good balanced diet of natural foods in as whole a form as possible. Cook your own food so you know the ingredients that are being used. Switch all refined ingredients to wholesome ones & then whatever you produce will be health producing & nutritious. Definitely no preservatives and the like for you. I would strongly recommend a good ayurvedic doctor. Being busy, happy & having trust in your wellness will help you reverse your problem.

Question 12. What is the diet for fatty liver?  - Vasant Amodekar On 9 January 2009

You need to follow all the dictates of a wholesome diet as I've been writing in this column. Definitely avoid all refined oils and butter and cheese. Use oil but sparingly and only the cold-pressed/ghani kind. Now easily available in the market. All fruits, vegetables (especially radish), brown rice and millets are good for you. And all other unrefined natural foods need to be introduced into your lifestyle together with sunshine and activity. I don't need to add that too much eggs, meat, chicken, alcohol, anger and complaining are all a nuisance to the liver. So the quicker you find love and peace, the better for you. Attitude is the only thing that is in our hands to change.

Question 13. Would you please tell me how should an infant, just breast fed be cared for when he gets cold, cough and feverish?   - Shalini Bhatt On 11 January 2009

Breastfeeding is the very best food you can give your baby. Usually a cold, cough and fever in a breastfed infant will go on its own. Ofcourse ensure the fever is not a high one. See your paediatrician. Also find yourself a reputed homeopath so you don't need to depend on allopathic cures.

But generally speaking do not worry. especially if child is completely breast-fed. Just see what could be causing the cold. Is the baby well covered ? The head, chest and feet should always be covered especially in cold weather. Don't keep the baby directly under a fan or in the way of any draft. Check if baby's bed and clothing are not contacting too much dust. Baby must get a bit of morning and a bit of evening sun.

The mother should eat well and rest, so her body is not drained of nutrients to supply the best to the baby. That is nature's way of safeguarding the child. An occasional cold is okay, it is nature's cleansing of the body. Worry only if baby gets a cold too often. (There are many home cures for a slightly older baby.) Otherwise trust in nature and if baby is growing well and is alert and happy, do not worry. Listen to your heart and take your cues from your baby.

Question 14. What nutrition would you recommend for a Morbus Parkinson patient?  - Seppo Viitala On 22 January 2009

Again, I would recommend all the same changes from refined to unrefined. In this case I would definitely add walnuts, almonds, pine nuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, flax seeds, and sesame seeds. No cooking should be done in aluminium utensils. Can give you more suggestions if I know the blood type. Find a reputed ayurvedic doctor. Sunshine is crucial.

I would recommend doing a short vedic puja called Agnihotra. It needs to be done daily if possible. This can have a greatly influence your body's capacity to heal. Check it out at agnihotraindia.com

And help the patient deal with the root emotional cause of such a problem which could be fear and desire to control. Find ways of getting him/her to relax and trust in life.

Question 15. I want to know the benefits of flax seed with regards to cancer and the right way to consume the same.  - Roma Ramchandani On 22 January 2009

There are many things you can do for cancer. If you have been reading this page, you will get to know different natural ways of dealing with disease. I am the greatest believer in brown rice being the one food that gives our body the best chance to heal. Its sodium-potassium ratio being similar to that of our cells, it is the best chance, nutritionally speaking, that the cells have of returning to their birth right: Health.

I would recommend doing a short vedic puja called Agnihotra. It needs to be done daily if possible. This can have a greatly influence your body's capacity to heal. Check it out at agnihotraindia.com

Flax seeds are a good way to deal with cancer. The best way to consume them is to soak for a few hours or even overnight, throw the water, and then chew them or add to cereal, soup, etc. Do not cook. Can make delicious chikkis. That bit of cooking is okay. Also makes a great chutney with chili and salt (can add other ingredients that you like). Salt should be minimal and that too only sindhav ie rock salt. Enjoy your food or it will not heal you. Know that health is your natural state.
