Question 16. what is correct way of meditation  - Ramesh Pandey On 27 November 2009

Meditation must always be learnt under a guru, in an ashram set-up. So it would be wrong for me to give you guidelines to start a practice on your own.

Question 17. Dear Mam, I want to do a certificate course in yoga for 3-4 months from delhi. Pls suggest which institutes are offering such courses. Best Regards,  - Geetanjali On 14 October 2010

For diploma course in Delhi: I would not know of diploma course in delhi, but you may try to attend courses at ashrams in Bihar (The bihar school of yoga), Sivananda Vedanta Center (in Kerala and Uttarkashi), Kaivalyadham inst in Maharashtra, and Vivekananda Yoga (Vyasa) inst for comprehensive course. You will find their contact details on their websites.

Question 18. Hi Shameem, I am very lean and thin and tend to loose weight when stressed and upset. could you recommend some asans that would help me gain some weight especially on chest and hips. I am a 28 yr old female. My BMI is currently 12.  - Puneet Goswami On 7 October 2010

Weight gain, practice agnisara kirya (to boost apetite), and have a regular yoga sadhana which includes meditation. Hold the prithvi mudra (tip of ring finger to tip of thumb) -- this increases the earth element in your personality, which is calming and grounding. Add forward bends which are soothing -- like shashankasana and yoga mudrasana to de-stress.

Question 19. I am 35 years old and have not done any yoga earlier. My weight is on the overside. I am suffering from knee pain for last two years. My mother also suffers from joint pain and has arthritis. I like walking. What exercise would be preferable for me as I wish to reduce both weight and avoid arthritis and also I am a beginner.  - Garima Jain On 1 October 2010

The knee pain is due to body heaviness. Start any yoga programme initially just to get the body lose its stiffness. Later you can join more dynamic yoga programmes like the Iyengar yoga or Sivananda yoga schools for weight loss. Surya namaskar is the best bet for quick weight loss. Plus a steady dynamic sadhana that keeps your practice on the mat stimulated. Include stimulating pranayamas like bhastrika and kapalabhati. But these need to learnt under expert guidance.

Question 20. I like to join yoga at Trivandrum, Do you have any branches at Trivandrum?  - Nitin On 26 March 2011

At Trivandrum, there are two Sivananda yoga enters. The main one is at Neyyar Dam, and the other one in the city. Put a search for Sivananda site and locate the Indian centers in their contact list.
