Ananda - Be Aware of Your Self

by Life Positive

Rohan had a great gift of remembering the marks of all his classmates, the first term, second term, third term and so on. So much so that all his friends used to reconfirm their own marks from a previous term from him.

Knowing this, Ananda asked him, “What were your marks in each term?”

“Oh, wait,” Rohan replied, going in and getting his report card.

Ironically, the marks seemed to have slipped each term. “As you are an expert at remembering marks, you must know whether others too have slipped,” Ananda said. Rohan blushed.

After a pause, Ananda said, “Aim at bettering yourself and not keeping track of others’ marks.”

The message hit home. Rohan was only concentrating on counting other people’s marks and not bothering about the state of his own. Realising the futility of this, he resolved to concentrate on his own efforts.

Apply it: Often, this is the case with us. We know what other people did or did not do. “X is the tenth contender for the Indian Idol; Y lost his place by a thin margin. A is the contender for the World Cup or Wimbledon, B of your school is the highest scorer in a ll subjects.” These are facts many of us know. But, is this enough?

Look around you, and be aware. But, do not make that the focus of your life.

You have control only over yourself. Whether it is your studies, a game or a talent you have or even, your temperament, think about where you are today and where you would like to be. Surely, if you try, you will reach there.
