Ananda - Do it now
by Life Positive
Brishti replied that there was a street dog in front of her school that had given birth to four puppies. Brishti had befriended them, and playing with the pups was a daily activity for her on her way to and from school. Today however, when she stopped to play with them, only three little pups came to her. Soon she discovered the fourth pup, hiding under some bushes, one paw badly injured. A tea stall owner informed Brishti that the pup was hit by a car.
Ananda asked Brishti what was the reason that she was crying now. Brishti looked surprised. She said, “Because the puppy is hurt”. “So what are you doing about it besides crying?” he asked. Brishti was surprised. Was there really something she could do about it? Ananda encouraged her to think of a plan that might help not only this pup but also the others who were under a potential threat from reckless drivers at all times.
Wiping her tears, Brishti decided she would first seek the help of animal shelters to provide treatment to the injured pup. Then she would enlist the help of her friends and teachers to try and get the pups adopted. The path ahead was difficult, but at least Brishti had made a start, progressing from a mute spectator to a proactive do-er. Ananda smiled to himself – the wheel of change was in motion.
Apply it: If distressed about your surrounding environment or situations, make a proactive effort to change it by setting yourself as an example. The world suffers a lot sometimes not from the violence of the bad but from the silence of the good.
