Ananda - Dont Worry Be Happy
by Life Positive
Jatin had lost weight, was pale and listless, and had dark circles under his eyes.
Obviously his impending exams were taking a toll on Jatin, thought Ananda.
"Jatin, I know you are busy, but I need a favour. Could you hold this bottle straight?" Ananda asked him, handing him a bottle of juice. "Please do not keep it down till I tell you. It has to be held in the same position for some time. I will be back in a minute."
Jatin nodded, and held it. Ananda took a full 15 minutes to return. By then, Jatin's arm had begun to ache.
"Sorry, I am late," apologised Ananda, "Was it too heavy? Are you tired?"
"Well…" said Jatin, "it was not really heavy, but holding it for so long was pretty tiring."
Ananda smiled. "You are absolutely right. It is not the weight of the bottle, but the period of time you held it that tired you." "If you hold it for a minute, it is OK. If you hold it for 15 minutes, like you did, you will be pretty tired. If you had held it for a day, you might have had to call an ambulance. It is the same weight, but the longer you hold it, the heavier it becomes," he said.
Softly, he continued, "If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, we will not be able to carry on, because the burden becomes increasingly heavier. What you have to do is to put the bottle down, and rest for a while before holding it up again. Study, but do take periodic breaks to feel refreshed. Above all, don't be worried. Leave your worries with God. He will take care of them."
Jatin smiled, already feeling a lot lighter.
