Book Reviews - Focus on reiki
by Nipun A Jacob
This comprehensive book on reiki, could well prove to be a gold mine of information for an alternative therapy seeker, as well as offer valuable tips for a reiki practitioner.
The author throws light on the efficacy of reiki, by not only sketching out a brief history of its origin but also details how reiki can not only cure common- but also life-threatening ailments, if practised with zest.
The author’s rational approach sets this book on reiki apart from its contemporaries. Divided into four parts, the book reveals the scientific basis behind the technique, the practice, the five principles and finally how to keep dwelling on the path of self-discovery in reiki. According to the author, a reiki channel must abide with the five principles for a successful practice; have the attitude of gratitude, keep worry at bay, do not get angry, do your work sincerely and honestly, and show love and respect to every living being.
The author answers and clears all the questions, doubts and myths that a sceptic might have about the subject. He also does not shy away from explaining the limitations associated with reiki.
He cautions that “reiki is not a substitute for professional advice in emergencies, or in the case of serious terminal disease." The book is full of vivid examples, hand positions used in this therapy, and the author’s own experiences with reiki, a holistic therapy for spiritual, mental and physical growth.
In his book, he also emphasises the need to identify a bonafide reiki master/teacher to master the therapy well. Before taking up this practice though, the author says, “Romance with reiki, before you proceed to marry it.”
