News - An Enlightened Media

by Life Positive

Imagine this: the headline of your daily newspaper carols about schools teaching meditation; the lead article advocates capitalism, but for service, not profit.

The leading news channel covers 10 people who have left corporate jobs in search of self-expression, and it focuses on the overwhelming trend to move to nature, away from cities. A media that focuses on good news and positivity? Well, we may be a long way from that (save for Life Positive!), but if the Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Iswariya Vishwa Vidyalaya have their way, we’ll soon get there. At their national seminar on ‘Values and challenges before Media in the 21st Century’ held recently at their Mount Abu headquarters, a thousand weary journalists expressed a fervent hope that change would soon be on its way.

All agreed that the media had to become more independent of the advertisers’ control, and create an awareness among citizens, not just about consumer products, but about society, values and ways of life. All realized that their restlessness and hunger for more meaningful journalism resonated from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. A journalist from Punjab shared, “Until I came here, I thought I was the only one waiting for a revolution. Today I know, I am just one among the thousand, and the time indeed has come for change.”  Cheers to the revolution, or shall we say, evolution?!
