News - Ayurvedic tips for the summer

Our homegrown ayurveda has wise advice on how to
cope with the dog days of summer. The heat tends to diminish the body’s strength, dry the kapha (one of the three
humours or body types determined by ayurveda) in people, animals, plants, foods and aggravate vata (another body
type; the third is pitta). Satvic food is therefore your best bet to stay balanced and healthy.

Refreshing and energising cucumber juice
Diet right
• Imbibe raisin and cucumber juice
• Powder some cardamom, mix with pure cold water kept in a pot. Expose it to moonlight and drink up.
• Barley water, green gram soup, sherbets and buttermilk help cool the system.
• Foods such as rice with milk, butter milk and lassi are good for health.
• Ghee can be used in moderation
• One must not eat pungent, sour,
dry and salty foods
• Coffee and tea are not good as
they stimulate the central nervous
system. Taking them on empty
stomach is harmful as they mix with
acid and circulate all over the body
producing several diseases
• Alcohol is a hot drink and must
not be used during this season;
either avoid it or drink it with
plenty of water
Daily routine
• Spend time in a place surrounded by water and green trees, or in the mountains.
• Avoid exposure to sunrays especially during the afternoon
• Swimming is advisable in a
pond, lake or river
• Stay exposed to the moonrays
at night
• Wear light cotton clothes
• Anoint your body with sandal
and usheera paste which cools
the body
• Have a cold-water bath
• Exercise lightly
