As most tarot readers specify, 'it does not tell you what you want to know, but what you need to know', helping you even in your day-to-day decision-making. Myths, curiosity and awe, surrounds this deck of 78 cards, of which 22 are images and 56 reflect, with the addition of knights, our standard pack of 52 playing cards. Exploring the tarot and its potential can be a very fruitful and rewarding experience, if you only know how to go about it.

Many such beginners interested in knowing and understanding the tarot, found the ideal opportunity to do so, in the two-day 'Tarot Workshop for Beginners' on September 20 and 21, 2008. It was organised by the New Age Foundation in collaboration with the Mshezaim Tarot Institute. The facilitator for the workshop was tarot mentor Madhu Jha. The two-day workshop covered various aspects and topics related to tarot. The participants learned the basics of tarot, a little history of this form of divination, basic meanings of the cards, meditation with tarot and even how to select a tarot deck. Madhu also taught the participants the method to cleanse and charge the cards and take proper care of their decks. The participants attending the workshop were people from different backgrounds and beliefs. Some were there to learn tarot, some wanted to understand and explore and some were serious about embarking on a career as a tarot reader. The workshop was quite successful as by the end of it, all the participants were confident of being able to read for themselves and friends. There were many practical exercises, like introducing the participants to different spreads, apart from the theoretical knowledge and everyone thoroughly enjoyed these exercises.
