News - Green scene

by Life Positive

More and more parts of the world are now seriously waking up to the need for a sustainable and holistic solution to the planet’s problems.

Emerging initiatives include a hotel in Copenhagen called the Copenhagen Crowne Plaza, where guests are invited to help produce electricity for the hotel by pedalling on stationery bikes. The energy produced by pedalling guests is stored in a battery before being injected into the hotel’s power supply. When they have accumulated a certain amount of electricity they are entitled to a free meal.

The hotel, which brands itself as 100 per cent green also offers only organic food and the high tech kitchen grinds all its garbage and sends it to a local biogas central to be transformed into fuel.

Not only has the hotel set the pace for greening the hotel industry but also for introducing an element of barter into its dealings. Imagine how much cheaper life would be if writers were allowed to stay in hotels in exchange for writing publicity material for them, carpenters for repairing and maintaining the place and so on.
