News - Heal And Empower The Gentle Way

“Do remember Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) may persist for a long time and may recur every time the victim sees any reminder of the traumatic episode,” he said in a workshop on Healing Trauma the Gentle Way, held soon after the terror attacks that left Mumbai citizens shell-shocked. The workshop was free for all participants, with a request for voluntary donations to CHIP, an NGO working with the underprivileged in Mumbai.
Exposing participants to the basic concept of NLP and Narrative Therapy, he requested everyone to help people to look beyond a perceived ‘victim’ story and connect to other aspects of their lives.Sharing the experience of such sessions in Israel and Rwanda, he pointed out how sensitive counselling empowers and enables a person to move on and perhaps, even be agents of change.
Dr Mirchandani showed how to use Neurolinguistic programming (NLP) to convey positive messages to the brain in a precise manner, and thus change the victim’s perception of the scenario. Moving on to narrative therapy, he explained and demonstrated the fundamental concepts of Narrative Therapy and stressed how important it is for the therapist to remain objective and not thrust his/her value judgements on the victim. He also emphasised acceptance of cultural beliefs and the environment in which the person seeking relief is brought up, to make the victim totally comfortable. A useful teaching to remember in these traumatic times.
