News - Home grown remedies

by Life Positive

Soukya International Holistic Centre in Bangalore, has introduced their new venture Sahaya, an inpatient facility which uses plant extracts and herbs from the Soukya medical garden to prepare oils and medicines required for treatment.

Says Dr Issac Mathai, founder and Medical Director of Sahaya, “Centuries ago the vaidya (physician) would keep the patient at home, prepare medicines from plants and herbs grown in his garden, and supervise care till the patient has recovered. It is important to provide a positive, healing environment to the patient for the treatment to be effective. We are now reintroducing that age-old tradition through Sahaya.”

Dr Issac Mathai and his wife: integrating healing practice
They combine the established traditional healing methods with modern medicine to offer patients integrative health care. The systems of traditional medicine offered are ayurveda, naturopathy, homoeopathy, unani and siddha, along with complementary therapies, like yoga, meditation, panchakarma, hydrotherapy, mud therapy, acupuncture, acupressure, auriculotherapy and reflexology. The medical programmes rely on modern medicine for investigations and diagnosis of ailments.
