News - Kiranas go organic
by Life Positive
A friendly neighbourhood organic store Kiranas are those small, ubiquitous, family-run stores throughout India which provide you with your monthly rations, many a time on credit too. Sadly, they are fast being replaced by chains of MNC-backed departmental stores in cities, as well as smaller towns. Hence, the launch of The Kirana Shop in the hustle and bustle of a posh marketplace in Delhi comes as a pleasant surprise. Ragini Mehra, wellness consultant and partner of Silhouette Hair and Beauty, at The Oberoi, launched her new venture, boasting of a diverse and varied range of organic and natural foods, wellness products and lifestyle accessories.
The Kirana Shop is an endeavour to empower women and isolated communities, and educate farmers about the methods and benefits of producing organic products. This not only benefits them economically but also helps them to sustain the age-old emotional connect they have with their land. The store comes with an inhouse expert, as well as a manual, for people who want to achieve health and fitness through pure and organic means. Ragini is also focussed on making people aware of the benefits of the products and aligning individual needs with respective lifestyles changes. “The Kirana Shop wants to bring the same old experience back into grocery shopping, but with an all-organic, all-natural and healthy approach. I have individually selected the various segments of the produce and merchandise available in the shop. From farm fresh produce to potted herbs, crockery, to organic crisps and snacks, natural soaps to organic spices, everything one needs to change to a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle will be available here,” she states.
With the growing awareness about organic consumption and a rising demand for it, The Kirana Shop is a model that Ragini Mehra aims to replicate in other areas of Delhi as well as in other metros.
