Any attempt to reduce or rid the pain of childbirth, easily one of the most traumatic experiences in a woman’s life, is a Godsend.

Hypnobirth does just that. Using hypnotism during childbirth, many mothers are able to drastically reduce and in some cases eliminate any pain. Some of the new moms are so happy with the technique that they come out of childbirth wanting to do it all over again!

Hypnobirthing puts the mother-to-be in a relaxed but fully in control state, similar to daydreaming. She experiences giving birth in an atmosphere of calm relaxation, free of the fear that prevents the muscles from functioning as nature intended them to. In this calm state, her body’s natural relaxant, endorphins, replace the stress hormones that constrict and cause pain. Hypnobirthing mothers may still experience sensations of tightening or pressure; but most describe their birth experience as working with their body through the sensations, and thus avoiding the excruciating pain that is frequently spoken of by women who choose other methods of preparation for birthing.

Hypnobirthing classes teach relaxation skills that will be useful to both mother and baby, regardless of her birth experience. In the event that medical intervention of any sort is needed, she will find herself better able to remain calm and in control. Mothers who have needed scheduled caesareans for medical reasons report that they were totally relaxed before, during and after the procedure. Many report that they needed little or no medication following the birth, and they were able to return to normal functioning in a very short period of time. With celebrities endorsing hypnobirth, it’s not too long before it becomes the norm and not the exception.
