If we women donít take responsibility for the environment by becoming vegetarians and promoting organic farming, the world will be in danger,Ē said Margaretha Guidone of Socialist Party, Belgium.
The time has clearly come for women to take over the world, if it is to survive, and the International Womenís Conference organized by the Art of Living Foundation recently in Bangalore, offered rich testimony to this view.
About 550 women attended from over 50 countries, including first ladies, mayors, politicians, members of parliaments, artists, urban and rural women, offering a fertile plurality of views.
Under the chairpersonship of Bhanumathi Narasimhan, the conference included sessions on issues such as women in global leadership, empowering women, action for environment sustainability, action for economic and social development, campaign against female foeticide, ancient sciences and arts, and the quest for peace.
Super cop Kiran Bedi outlined three areas for women to work on Ė education, peace and environment conservation. From a dance recital by Hema Malini and her daughters, to hits of Usha Uthup and Hema Sardesai, to a dance drama by Rashmi Gopi Hegde, the conference also packed in enough right-brain activities that showcased women power.
The conference culminated with a pledge to strengthen the intention and passion for resolving womenís issues and challenges.
