Personal Growth - Freedom from conflict

When one can convert negativities into positivities, all conflict dissolves, says Suma Varughese

One of the most beautiful outcomes of my newfound capacity for integration is the stark absence of conflict. Freedom from conflict has been one of my theme songs, so it is awe-inspiring to find myself within its presence, not fully as a state of mind but as a possibility that I can well put into practice.

No matter what the feeling or thought – anger, discomfort, resistance, condemnation, judgement or fear, I am recognising that they only exist to move me to peace, so I do not have to resist them. Once the resistance lifts, the movement to peace is a natural progression.

It seems amazing that the very things that seemed to be pulling you down and locking you in conflict and pain can actually be used to send you along the path of joy and happiness instead. All you have to do is recognise that our true nature of bliss, peace, love and compassion underlies every one of these feelings and once we give them permission to exist and actively embrace them, they melt and dissolve into the essence of our being and we are restored to bliss. Yes this is not easy and one has to work to get there, but hallelujah, it exists!

At the moment I am going through a digestive disorder that is causing me discomfort but the knowledge that the problem exists only to move me further into my underlying whole and perfect health is giving me a newfound acceptance of its existence and is freeing me of my habitual fear, anxiety and self-condemnation.
The very things that pull you down can actually be used to send you along the path of happiness instead.
And what is more, the acceptance is enabling me to be more resourceful in hunting out solutions for the problem. I discover that resistance and other negative states actually shut down the rational thinking mind and lock us within the primitive mind which specialises in repetitive cyclical thinking which only creates more and more negativity.

I am recognising how fearful I have been of myself, of others and of life. I have lived in fear of getting angry or reactive and bringing pain to others. I have also lived in fear of the power others had to cause me pain. For a greater part of my life I have run away from dominating people because I have feared their capacity to bully and manipulate me. Now I am discerning that since their express purpose in my life is to restore me to my own centre, I can actually embrace their presence in my life. The same holds true for my relationship with life. Many years ago, I entered the spiritual journey to grapple with the discovery that life holds no guarantees. The discovery filled me with fear for where was I to discover the strength that would help me cope with the limitless disasters that life could bring my way - from illnesses to accidents, to relationship ruptures, money problems, death and separation?

Inch by inch I worked on myself, discovering the laws of karma, surrender, acceptance and other effective truths to combat the immense uncertainty of life.

Discovering that everything that happens is only to move us further into our wholeness and perfection may finally be the master key to a fearless and all-embracing attitude.
