Personal Growth - The laws of love
by Megha Bajaj
It was just another day... until she came into his life.
Love happens suddenly
The sun had risen as always. He had opened his curious eyes and was watching the world as always. Gently, his head was swaying in the breeze as always. The soft fragrance was around as always. There was nothing in the air to tell him that in just a few moments his entire world was about to turn upside down. Out of nowhere, she came, the beautiful butterfly, and touched him with her tender legs. Her wings flaming red and gold spread themselves upon his arms and a shiver ran up and down his entire body.
From the roots to the tips of his petals, he felt shaken. He could not help but stare at the beautiful creature sitting upon his heart. Never in his life had he felt so aware of someones presence never before had he been so aware of every sensation upon his little flower body. Never before had he felt a love so deep so intense. That is when he realised the first law of love. Love could never be planned, it happens, just like that, suddenly.
Love grows as you give
She became a regular visitor the butterfly. For she too had taken a liking to this big, happy flower. For hours, they would sit together. Sometimes holding each other. Other times watching the sun. Sometimes speaking. Other times allowing silence to engulf them. Every now and then, the butterfly would sip on his nectar. He would open his little self so she could have as much of him as she wanted. He had no other gift to give her but his nectar and he never held back.
In time, he realised the second law of love. The more love he gave the butterfly the more love he felt in his life. He realised that love never lessens by giving. It only grows.
Love is also about hurt
Many a happy day was spent together. The love between the flower and the butterfly grew to legendary proportions the entire garden was whispering about them. His friends teased him. Little was known about the butterfly and no one knew where she had come from and some of the older ones warned the little flower that butterflies were not to be trusted. They came, they went. They advised him to love someone like him a flower, but our little flower knew it was impossible. He was in too deep.
One day as he was waiting for her to come, he felt a strange fear in his heart. What if she did not come?
|Love was not just about all the beautiful feelings. Love is also about hurt.|
Days became weeks, and still there was no sign of his love. There was anguish. There was despair. There was disappointment. Above all, there was a great sense of loneliness. Standing right there amidst all his brothers and sisters all his friends he still felt alone. A part of him ached as it had never ached before.
That is when he realised the third law of love. Love was not just about all the beautiful feelings. Love is also about hurt. In fact, to the degree that you love; chances are to that degree you will undergo pain.
You can find more love
Time, they say, is the best healer. And indeed it was. After a while, the flower began to smile again. It took some effort but he began to speak to his near and dear ones again. Every now and then, his eyes would scan the horizon to see if his beautiful butterfly would return however, the pain was slowly replaced by acceptance. He allowed the sun to wash over him he allowed the breeze to sway him he allowed the soil to nourish him.
One day, out of nowhere, a little pink bud blossomed right beside him. She was nothing like his love and yet, as he heard her gentle voice, he felt soothed. He began to speak to her and she listened. He was sure he could never love again and yet, in a few days the friendship between the two deepened into something special.
That is when he realised the fourth law of love. The love for someone, if deep enough, could never be erased. Nor could it be replaced. Yet, there is a possibility to find more love within ones heart to love someone else. It is not the same and yet, in its own way, it is special, very special.
Loving is living
As the little flower began to love this pink one more, he began to feel really good about himself. Somehow it was not a crazy infatuation based on how she looked, it was a deeper feeling. She made him feel good in her presence. She heard as much as she spoke. She gave as much as she took. She loved as much as she allowed to be loved. In fact, being with her he did not feel disconnected with the world. In fact, he felt even closer to his family and friends. She did not make his heart flutter but she made his heart expand. And as it did he realised he no longer just loved her he loved everything about his life. In fact, the more love he felt for everything the more glorious his petals became the more fragrant his core became and more and more everyone around him started loving and respecting him.
It was then that he realised. You did not even need to love a particular person you could just love everyone and everything, for every reason and for no reason. The more he gave of himself, the more beautiful he became by the day. In fact, he realised that loving is living, and living is loving.
He sighed with deep happiness and contentment. It was a very beautiful life indeed.
