A pilgrimage to Dharamkot changes Aparna Sharma’s relationship with life, inspiring her to live mindfully and deliberately
Tushita fact fileTushita Meditation Centre was founded by Lama Thubten Yeshe. Born in Tibet in 1935, Lama Yeshe entered Sera Monastic University in Tibet at the age of six, where he studied until the Chinese invasion of Tibet in 1959. Of that period, Lama Yeshe says, "In that year the Chinese kindly told us that it was time to leave Tibet, and meet the outside world." In the 1960s, Western `seekers` met Lama Yeshe and his main student Lama Zopa Rinpoche, and having requested teachings from the lamas, together they sought out a suitable site for instruction. That was how, in 1972, `Tushita` (meaning `The Place of Joy`, the pure land of the coming Buddha Maitreya) was conceived and founded. Over the years, the successions of masters and seekers who have meditated here have created a powerful spiritual atmosphere, true to its name, a `Pure Land of the coming Buddha Maitreya`.
