Teaching Story - The Miracle Child
by Life Positive
Mary researched her daughter's condition on the internet and took guidance from various health professionals. The persistent mother found that liver transplants had been successful in other children like Amy Rose.
Although it was a long struggle and Amy almost lost out to cancer during the many chemo sessions, hope finally won. Family members were tested to find suitable donors for Amy Rose and Pat's sister, Anne Marie, was a "perfect match", even though she had a different blood type. Without thinking about herself, Amy's aunt was simply happy to help. Little Amy Rose pulled through after her successful liver transplant in 2005.
Parents, grandparents, friends and neighbours celebrated in Borris-in-Ossory, Co Laois, as they watched Amy Rose O'Sullivan (3) put on her schoolbag and set off for her first day at playschool in September 2008. Seeing their child being 'reborn' has encouraged Pat and Mary to pass on the ray of hope to many others by promoting the importance of carrying a donor card because of their daughter's situation. The message that they send out to the world is, "If you can give life, it's a miracle. It's so important."
