Cinema - Awakening Into Spiritual Reality

by Life Positive

What the Bleep Do We Know!?, Cast: Marlee Matlin (Amanda), Directed By: William Arntz,Betsy Chasse, Screened at: India International Centre, New Delhi

The documentary film, What the Bleep Do We Know!? takes us on a spiritual journey with Amanda, a deaf photographer who struggles to find answers to questions like "Who am I?", "Why do I live?". As she misses her train one day, a despondent Amanda notices pictures of how the molecular structure of water changes incredibly, owing to the chi of love. As she stands mesmerised, unable to take her eyes off the pictures, a stranger standing next to her, says, "Imagine what these thoughts can do to us if they can change the water structure!" The statement changes her entire life as she begins to look at the world through her brain and mind, rather than her eyes, within herself than without, consequently going beyond the physical. Her newfound faculty, enables her to look into the brain cells of people when they are angry, emotional or even when they gorge on food (by resorting to spectacular animation techniques, the director, in this particular scene, has done a most remarkable job.)

In a scene flip, Amanda gazes into the mirror and is shocked to see a bloated or an aged self, which elicits a violent response from her. That is when the words of the stranger resound in her head. Influenced by them, she accepts herself the way she is and inscribes "I love you" on her body, suggesting that she has successfully broken free from the notion of the ideal that we so often strive to achieve, oblivious of the tremendous potential we possess within ourselves, or the endless possibilities we are capable of achieving.

What makes this movie different from the others is that it inspires us to believe that Amanda is not so much the real hero of the film as 'I' am or we are, since 'I' have the power "to be like God", for which all 'I' need to do is broaden my horizon and free my thoughts.
