The arts—music, painting, poetry, prose, cinema, dancing, sculpting—are
the highest pinnacles that human creativity can aspire to conquer. Throughout
history, a civilization's zenith has nearly always been marked by it's progress
in the field of the arts. But is art, as Plato said, an external
force, which expresses itself through the artist? Or is it an inner flash of awakening,
when the conscious mind reaches out and touches the core of existence?
Cinema
Spirituality,
like life itself, has found its expression in cinema. Be it Andrei Tarkovsky's
Stalker or G.V. Iyer's Bhagavad Gita, the silver screen has often
become the medium not just for entertainment, but taking some time out
to look within and seek the meaning of existence.
Creativity Talent
is not synonymous with creativity. For, unlike talent, which most
often means being good in a certain field, creativity is a point of view,
an approach towards the mundane that transforms every blade of grass into a wonder
of life.
Fine Arts
Painting, sculpture, drawings, sketches—little else can take the place
of the fine arts when it comes to the sheer joy of creating.
And nothing could perhaps be more mystifying than the search for the
Truth hidden in each piece of art.
Music Music,
it is said, is manna for the soul, and nectar for the spirit. Nowhere is this
more apparent than in the 'genre' of spiritual music—carols, kirtans,
qawwalis, chants. But does music really need tags of faith
to show its spirituality? Why, the very existence of music is a
spiritual phenomenon. Just ask Nature!
New Age Fiction Though
New Age as a literary genre is still not well-defined—it seems to include
anything from other realms, different states of being, space/time continuums,
to spirit entities and supraconsciousness—what seems obvious is
a desire to explore the higher reaches of human potential.
Poetry
and Fiction
The very root of the term fiction lies in words
denoting falsehood. Yet, what a pregnant world of imagination it contains!
Sculpting with words is the craft of the creative writers.
Whether they draw their inspiration from madness, divinity or intoxication, poets
and fiction writers have always provided the soul and the society with
windows through which to escape to the worlds unreal, the realms undiscovered.
Sample some quintessentially imaginative, mystical and intensely thoughtful short
stories and poems.
Performing Arts Theatre
both have a deeper, more therapeutic and psychological import than was first highlighted
in the ancient texts of Bharat Muni's Natya Shastra and Aristotle's
Poetics. |
