CHINMAYA
CENTER OF WORLD UNDERSTANDING December 4, 2000
Dear Sir/ Madam
To, mark the fiftieth anniversary of Chinmaya Mission, the Chinmaya Center for
World Understanding, New Delhi, is hosting a cultural program on Thursday, 11th
January 2001. The theme of the program is "Creation of National Wealth Through
Values" and the main participants will be school children between the ages
of 14-18 from a number of schools and colleges in Delhi. This mega event will
be held at the "Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium Auditorium" from 10.30
a.m. to 01.30 p.m.
While we realize that this a busy period for all of you with innumerable school
functions, exams and other activities underway, we would nevertheless urge you
to consider a minimal participation in this event. We would like as many young
students in the city to be a part of this celebration that has inspired their
peers to compose, render and interpret songs, dances and dramas on a theme of
obvious relevance in present day society. This is only the first of a series of
events that the Chinmaya Mission is organizing for schools, both teachers and
students, with a view to exposing them to ideas and teachings expressed in our
ancient Scriptures but which are, unfortunately, not included in any school curriculum.
These have been specially highlighted and taught by the great Master, Swami Chinmayananda,
whose dream has been to bring back the spirit of our ancient culture and transform
Indian Society through its youth. A copy of the program is attached for your information.
We are enclosing two items: 1) a song of universal love and inspiration composed
by a member of the music faculty of the Chinmaya Vidyalaya and 2) the pledge of
Chinmaya Mission. The latter emphasizes right values and inculcates a spirit of
patriotism. You will note that the program conclude with this song followed by
a human chain and the recitation of the pledge. We suggest that you train group
of between 100-300 children from your school to learn both these. As part of an
audience of 12,000 they would join in the grand finale, which will be a resonant
and awe-inspiring closure to this mega event. The time you would have to invest
in teaching these two items would be minimal.
We will be sending you pre-recorded cassettes of the song. Before that, however,
we would be grateful if you would confirm to us, as early as possible, your acceptance
to participate. We realize that there is always some difficulty with High School
students missing classes but we trust that you will enable middle schoolers and
perhaps some grade I X and X I students to attend.
We look forward to hearing from you: 1) about your interest in participating so
that we may send you the cassette and 2) about the number of children that you
plan to send so that we may make appropriate seating arrangements in the hall.
With best wishes Yours Sincerely,
Anita Raina Thapar
