Are You Deceptively Thinking Or Feeling Your Way Into Action?
When you deceptively believe your thinking or feeling is your action, you’re in inertia. Deceiving oneself is being one’s worst enemy. The core issue of this syndrome is denial. You’re in denial about what you are or aren’t doing in life and business.
Denial has become a cultural habit to the degree it has become a repartee of acceptance. Everyone laughs at, “Denial isn’t a river in Egypt”, and the ‘denial game’ goes on.
Feeling has become synonymous with and incorrectly used in place of belief or believe. For example: ”I feel this subject is complicated,” instead of the grammatically correct statement, “I believe this subject is complicated.”
The habit of believing thinking and feeling is action is the denial that keeps you asleep at the wheel and failing to arrive at your desired life and business destination. Here are some common examples:
THINKING:
1. Over worrying (i.e. “creaking”) As worrying is “allowing one’s mind to dwell on difficulty or troubles”, creaking is “over thinking a situation/feeling until it is far more complicated.” You may think about work all day and all night, including in your sleep, and claim this as “actively working” on a problem or issue.
2. Over responsibility: This gives one the illusion of being in control. It can also be a coping mechanism, a way to avoid the painful feeling of anger, fear and hurt.
Creaking and over responsibility are obsessive versions of Rational Thinking. When you make decisions from that instead of an Intuitive-Creative Thinking place, you often get pulled off track… away from your desired “destination.” The difference between both terms is briefly outlined below.
Rational Thinking:
- Time bound and limited - Fear dominates - Separates - Sees the observer and the observed as different - Needs approval
Intuitive-Creative Thinking:
- Timeless and infinite - Love dominates - Unifies - Sees the observer and observed as one and the same - Immune to criticism and flattery
FEELING:
There are four basic feelings: Happy, Sadness, Fear and Anger. Sadness, fear and anger can keep you stuck in victim mentality. The resulting feeling of inadequacy or a feeling of “ruined nobility” is a fate one wants to avoid.
In order to avoid the feeling you justify staying stuck right where you are, in stubbornness. Additional feelings include, but are not limited to guilt, fear of change, unworthiness, conflict, and inability to see options or choices.
Payoff:
What is the ‘payoff’ for holding onto your deception (i.e. denial)? Many people hold onto their deception to experience a sense of gain. What is your payoff?
-Sympathy from family, friends, or co-workers? -Compassionate coaxing and pleading from family, friends or co-workers? -‘Ruined nobility’: a sense of being slightly superior to others, despite your pain?
Somehow, somewhere, you believe that your pain buys you something. Be unsparingly objective and curious to discover what you gain each time you notice you’re in a rut, stuck or feeling sorry for your Self.
Remember, life’s a journey with twists, turns, vicissitudes, ebbs and flows. Your Soul’s sole purpose for being in body is to accomplish emotional and spiritual transformation and growth. No one can do this transformational work for you. How you create your growth is up to you. You have all the tools, resources and answers you need, both internally and externally. The choice is yours. All you need do is Look, Listen and Trust.
If you have difficulty identifying the issues and creating a solution, there is no shame in seeking professional assistance.
