SCIENTOLOGY
INTRODUCTION
Scientology, a twentieth-century applied religious philosophy, succeeded a long tradition of religious practice with roots in the belief systems of almost all world religions. Following a document titled Dianetics: The Original Thesis, Lafayette Ronald Hubbard, pulp and science fiction author, published Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health in 1950. And thus was born the controversial theory of Dianetics, which was to form the basis of the religion of Scientology.
According to Hubbard`s theory, `engrams` or memories of painful events, often imprinted before birth on the fetus, are the root of all human ills. By erasing the engrams under the direction of a Dianetics therapist or auditor an individual is freed from problems such as compulsions, obsessions, neuroses and conditions such as heart trouble, asthma, high blood pressure, ulcers, arthritis, the common cold, conjunctivitis, alcoholism, tuberculosis—and the list is endless.
