I found The Celestine Prophecy to be weak in terms of narrative, but strong in terms of ideas. This sort of didactic approach can fall into this trap easily.
James Joyce, if Im understanding him, called didactic writing pornography, because the art was being prostituted. I dont think Id go that far, but there needs to be a place where the message and the medium harmonize.
