| Sir/Madam Thank you for the article based on Jnana Yoga, Through the mind and out, by Purnima Yogi in the November 2010 issue of the distinguished Journal, ‘Life Positive‘. The main problem with Jnana is that first to find a real worthy person (adhikari) for understanding Jnana Yoga for the first quality which it requires is Shama ie full control over mind . Now if a person will have full control over mind , then what else does he need ? Again then , finding a real Jnani Guru is nearly an impossible task . Nowadays where can u find some one of the stature of Raman Maharshi . Again if you find him , speaking of Jnana Yoga is truly difficult & if any realised one can really speak then grasping it is another next to impossible task . Moreover , as Shri Ramkrishna says in His Kathamrita , that for a body concious person , Jnana Yoga is too difficult to practice . & what you will practice ? I am not this body , not this mind , not this , not that , is it so easy to think when the very next moment your wife will ask for money to go for shopping ? Above all , even Brahma , the creator also falls in to the trap of Lord‘s Maya , what to speak of Jnanis . That is there in Durga Saptashati Jnaninamapi chatamshi Devi Bhagavati Hi sa , Baladakrishya mohaya Mahamaya Prayacchati My Spiritual master , Anantashri Sitaramdas Omkarnath Dev wrote , if you constantly chant the Name of the Lord , then Sham , Dam , Vairagya & Vivikta - the four main qualifications of Jnana Yoga will run behind you . So , for the benefit of today‘s common masses , I don‘t think Jnana Yoga will be of any help except confusing them to the extent that they will disregard everyone & will consider themselves as God . Author could have tried to write about some simple path which would be of real help to commoners than writing about something which neither leads to the real goal that is liberation nor is easy to practice . Thanks Sincerely Sumon Mukhopadhyay |
