| Subject: Two sides of the same coin |
| Is pleasure the reaction we get when pain goes away? Makes sense... Pleasure is release. Release from pain, from repression, from stress, from tension. So it seems that without pain, there would be no pleasure. Sexual pleasure is release from sexual tension (from hormones). Pleasure from food and drink is release from stress. Sadistic pleasure is release from anger. Masochistic pleasure is release from guilt (through punishment). Pleasure from knowledge is release from the fear of ignorance (and insecurity). Without those natural bodily needs or the mental anguish we develop while coping with the world, it seems pleasure would be unnecessary as it appears to simply be release from these negative feelings. Without pain there would be no pleasure. So, pleasure is relative to pain. The other side of the coin. Do we really want to get rid of pain then? |
