| Subject: Dhyana or meditation |
| Meditation is now a widely known product from India which is exported to Western World by the “so called Gurus”. But it has nothing to do with Dhyan. Dhyan is a state which is to be reached . In fact it is quite hard to reach that state as it is the seventh state of Yoga as per the Yogasutra composed by Maharshi Patanjali . It is a state to be achieved & not a physical or mental activity . So Meditation & Dhyana is not at all the same or synonymous . Again , meditation is not also a very easy technique . To control & concentrate the mind on anything is not that easy . Rather if anyone can really control the mind , nothing is left for him to be achieved . So this process of meditation is totally a futile one leading to no result. The very famous Guru , Maharshi Mahesh Yogi’s ashram at Shankaracharyanagar , Rishikesh is just on the opposite bank of the Ganges where my Master , Shri Shri Sitaramdas Omkarnathdev’s ashram is located. Once , on Maharshi’s invitation , Shri Omkarnathdev visited Maharshi’s Ashram . There He commented that at this age , our body & mind is not at all fit for Dhyana . So if we always chant the Lord’s Name , automatically celestial sound & light appears & the state of Dhyana is reached without any laborious technique . The ultimate state of Dhyana is the Samadhi , the ever cherished state by all spiritual seekers of realising oneself . So for reaching that , just sitting on Padmasana & chanting Aum is not sufficient . Thanks to Mr. Daruka for gifting us such an article . Pranam Sumon Mukherjee Kolkata |
