Subject: Dakshinavarti Conch Shell
Dear Shri. Reddy, The Dakshinavarti Conch Shells shown in your article are not the original Dakshinavarti or the Valampuri Shells. These are the commonly found Lightening Whelk Shells. The rare Dakshinavarti Conch shells are Sinistral Variety of the Indian Conch species Turbinella pyrum, showing three to five (rarely 7) plaits or folds in the shell cavity. The original Indian Dakshinavarti Conch is an extremely rare and expensive seashell. Thanking you and with regards, Dr. Chandrashekhar Phadke, Pune, India E-Mail chphadke@gmail.com
