|Subject: Christianity and sexuality|
I 100% agree with your assessment on how many Christians have adopted an understanding of original sin but the is not relegated to sexual energy. In fact, many do not realize that there are many orthodox and even conservative Christians who believe that sexual energy is a God-given gift that should be celebrated. Much of the sexually repressed theology are remnants of Victorian and Greek influences on Christianity that believe the Physical is bad and the spiritual is good. A central tenant to orthodox Christianity is that in the begging what God made was good. Initial creation before the fall of man includIng sexual energy and drive are very spiritual and very good drives. This isn‘t the same message everyone gets from popular culture and to assume this is the case on the whole (not saying you are) is misinformed. Christianity does maintain that sexuality is spiritual and physical in nature and is designed for a man and a woman within a marriage. This practice takes enormous self control and mastering of sexual energy. Christians (real ones, not just the characters on TV) are very sexually aware and not repressed because the definition of sexuality for orthodox Christians carries a much broader definition than the attempt to achieve orgasm. It is interesting stuff. Talk to a well rounded pastor or faculty at Wheaton college. They have a really good take on this topic.
