| Subject: career choice? |
Oh what a relevant piece Suma. I am an education consultant guiding students who want to go to the U.S. to study. You know, the most frustrating part of meeting these students is to see how they are just wilting away in their own selves. I get tens of engineers everyday who just don‘t know why they did engineering. Who have no clue as to what is ‘job satisfaction‘. Or worse, students who did engineering simply because everybody else in the family did engineering. The parents are proud to say that theirs is a ‘family of doctors‘ or ‘family of engineers‘ (quite like the film 3 Idiots) and then i have a sullen faced ‘idiot‘ being prodded to do a Masters in engineering by an engineer father, while the only thing he is good at, is at playing soccer. I really do hope that this article reaches the right youth, and hopefully they make a conscious choice when opting for an academic career.
