For the hugging saint of India, even her birthday is an occasion for showering blessings on people.

On the occasion of Amma’s 60th birthday on September 27, various yagyas meant for the welfare of humanity, plant and animal kingdom as well as the health of Planet Earth, were performed.

This was followed by a cultural event where stalwarts such as flautist Pandit Hariprasad Chourasiya, mridangam expert Karaikudi Sri Mani and troop, Odissi dancers Sri Radhakant and Sujatha Mohapatra enthralled the audience.

There was also a high-powered International Symposium on September 25 and 26 on the Topic: Our Villages; Our World: What can we offer? It was inaugurated by former President A PJ Abdul Kalam and attended by many scientists, academicians, entrepreneurs, and technocrats such as MS Swaminathan (father of the Green Revolution), Nobel Laureate Dr Leyland Hartwell, CRK Nair from the Ministry of Rural Development and many others. The topics discussed included public health, safety, agriculture, school education, training for teachers, among others.

Amma also announced the adoption of 101 villages of India. These villages will be provided proper infrastructure by Amma’s mutt to lead self-reliant lives. They will be provided health and medical services, power, education, and disaster management training. May she live for another 60 years, and bless the Earth with her presence.
