Union with ourselves
Enlightenment is the ultimate goal of every seeker walking the spiritual path. It is considered to be a state where all pain, suffering, confusion, and bafflement have ended, and the beneficiary is steeped in an unalterable state of supreme bliss, calm, joy, and freedom incomparable with anything else in the world.

This is explained by the fact that every human being is ultimately looking to achieve happiness through all their endeavours. We initially seek it in achievements, relationships, success, and material comforts, only to realise (at some point) that happiness gained through these things is temporary and does not change anything in our inner world. We are still the same old unhappy and critical people we used to be. When this realisation dawns upon us, the quest for the true source of joy begins, leading us to the spiritual path.

As we progress on this journey, we realise that enlightenment is nothing but yoga or union with our scattered mental and emotional parts. We, as humans, already carry this state within ourselves but are unable to access it because our minds get enmeshed in destabilising energies of passion, desires, conflicts, and pain in the earthly realm. Our energies get scattered and left behind in all the areas where we encountered anguish or dissatisfaction. As we move inwards, we begin to collect ourselves piece by piece from all the places of entanglement, finally coming to a place where we have no energy entanglements left with anyone anymore. Our mind attains a state of rest and stillness as it does not have any reason to travel beyond itself because of feeling whole and complete within itself.

At this moment, the God particle lying dormant within us (Kundalini Shakti) finds space to come up and express itself in its full glory—which is termed as enlightenment. For some people, this happens as a natural organic process of karma-cleansing, and for others, through the grace of a sadguru who has expedited this evolutionary process by voiding the karmas of their disciples. In this 23rd anniversary issue of Life Positive, 12 masters share their experience of spiritual flowering and the events that helped them reach this much-desired state.

Wishing you happy reading.
