Beauty silence and bliss

Beauty silence and bliss

One evening, almost at the end of May, I, along with some friends, left for the lake in the city of Bhopal.

It was almost dusk; the sun hung low on the horizon and seemed to sink into the depths of some vast, distant ocean. As we drove, we were overwhelmed by its beauty; bright orange sun against the dark blue sky. The trees that skirted the lake enhanced its beauty even more.

As soon as we reached the lake, we parked our car, bought tickets for a boat ride and jumped into a nearby boat. It started with a friendly groan and we directed it to the middle of the lake. The cool breeze at dusk caressed our faces and the water below sent happy splashes upon us as if welcoming us with a hug! The sun, now obscured by the distant lofty mountains, was lost from view. The reflection of the pole star could be seen in the water below and the moon threw its silver shimmer on us.

By now almost all the boats had gone back to the stands. All was quiet, except for the soft rustle of the trees that whispered to us from the shore. The five of us fell into silence. There was no need of words, the silence was so complete in itself, so profound, so pure and all-encompassing. Everyone was in rapt admiration of the Divine. It was like a prayer, a prayer coming directly from the heart. Nature’s beauty and grandeur had left us in a stupor. The bliss that we found was unsurpassable.

The five of us fell into silence. There was no need of words, the silence was, so profound, so pure and all-encompassing.

The guard’s distant whistle brought us back to earth. We returned the boat and walked towards the car. As we drove, none of us could help glancing back time and again until the lake was lost from view. We still weren’t talking. Words seemed so hollow and superficial after the blissful silence! As we reached home, we parted company with a smile.

That night all of us slept soundly, dreaming about the glory of Mother Nature.
