Feeling grounded to lead a complete life

What really is feeling grounded? Let us understand this by observing and connecting with the people around us.

When we connect with others, we  see that almost everyone around us seems to be having similar troubles in being a happy, loving being. Security is very important for our emotional health.  This is why even the World Health Organisation includes the criteria of mental and social health in its definition of health.

However the constant state of happiness that we dream of, is probably not realistic except when we choose to tread the arduous journey of realising our own Self.

However, often the many things we do to find ourselves only make us more depressed and dissatisfied. Let us put this energy to shift our focus on being loving, serene, effective, and happy internally. This is the one and only thing that percolates down to others. Love is an essential part of who we are and the more we use it, the stronger it becomes.  When we feel safe and secure love emanates freely and naturally from us.

Let us begin  by understanding ourselves. We need to know that we have a unique personality and accept ourselves completely with all our traits. This is the only way we can remain secure and therefore grounded. A simple thing which enables this is giving our own selves compliments and affirmations.  This is extremely simple, still often difficult for us to understand for we are never taught the basic lesson of loving ourselves.

This is an important point that we all must strive to understand.  The ways we were taught to be happy is not adequate as it usually focuses on the external world.  We need to see our quest as internal to progress to a  higher consciousness.

In the theory of chakras, each of our chakras is a part of us and we need to give each of them utmost respect to progress spiritually. The base is the mooladhara that signifies security and feeling grounded. We know that in the area of construction, nothing stays till the foundation is laid perfectly. As we need to make the base perfect, we have to throw all garbage from our base chakra, the mooladhara or root chakra that signifies feeling secure. This garbage is usually the comparison that we do others. Just as we cannot compare oranges with apples, we should not compare ourselves with others if we want to remain happy and content.

Tools to feel grounded

Some tools we can use are

  1. Meditate on the root chakra

  2. Practice mindfulness by focussing on the present moment always and not thinking about the past or future

  3. Maintain a journal to record your thoughts and feelings so that you could make a plan for your triggers if any

  4. Maintain a gratitude journal for all the things you need to be grateful for also

Happiness never comes automatically. We need to work on ourselves to make it happen. In this area, feeling secure is the first step we need to take to remain happy and content. When the foundation is strong, a building is bound to remain strong and healthy. Without a strong foundation, everything just falls off or does not seem as if it fits in.

This is why we do need to understand the importance of remaining grounded in the journey of lives to create a strong, harmonious, holistic and yes, healthy life.
