Man cannot be successful without growing in a  holistic manner. Holistic growth is an indicator of sound physical, mental, and spiritual health of  a person. When a person has good self-image, high energy levels, resilience, freedom from  diseases, and the ability to walk an extra mile,  he is said to be physically fit. Similarly, positive  attitude, creativity, good learning ability,  enhanced self-drive, and interpersonal skills  are evidence of sound mental health. Spiritual evolution is gauged by enhanced clairvoyance,  an ability to see the big picture, a sound value  system, and self-discipline.  

Self-care plays a crucial role in creating and  sustaining physical, mental, and spiritual  strength. The super achievers in all walks  of life—business, politics, workforce, skilled  labour, or social service—know the value of  self-care, which helps them go from strength  to strength. He who is stuck in clearing  backlogs and meeting deadlines, and spares  no time for self-care, faces failure. To better  our performance, we need to feel good about  ourselves. To achieve that feeling of wellness,  practice five principles of good health and  preventive therapy: 

Right exercise: Walk briskly or jog for 15–30  minutes to detoxify the body and release  negative energy from the nervous system.  Practice a set of dynamic postures such as  surya namaskar to release strain and tension,  to relax pinched nerves and muscles, and to  balance and align the body. Deep-breathing  exercises such as nadi shodhana harmonise  energy, heal emotional baggage, and stop  cellular decay. 

Right diet: Eating similar food regularly results  in nutritional deficiency. Right diet means eating  a variety of foods which are rich in essential  vitamins, minerals, fibres, fatty acids, amino  acids, and other essential micronutrients.  

Right thoughts: Positive emotions such  as peace, joy, and satisfaction send body  signals of life-affirmation, whereas negative  emotions such as fear, negativity, depression,  and unresolved conflicts send life-negating  messages. These can impair the immune  system, leaving the body and mind vulnerable  to various diseases.  

Proper sunlight: The sun is the ultimate source  of energy on earth. Sun-bath has several health  benefits as well. Enjoy this free gift of nature to  nourish the body and keep it free of germs.  

Sound sleep: It heals the tired body, nerves,  and brain. During sleep, the body regenerates  damaged cells and tissues.
