Abhay Kumar Shah shows us how to get relief from sinusitis with the help of mudras

Every changing seasons creates some  medical issues. In this cold weather,  many of us suffer from sinusitis. 

What is sinusitis? 

The sinuses are four paired cavities in the head  and face, which are connected by narrow channels.  They produce thin mucus that drains out of the  channels of the nose. This mucus helps to keep  the nose clean and free of dust and bacteria. The  

• Praan Mudra  

Praan Mudra strengthens the  immune system. 

Touch the tips of the little finger  and the ring finger to the tip of  the thumb. Keep the remaining  two fingers comfortably straight.  Place your palms on the thighs.  

Praan Mudra 

sinuses are normally filled with air but they can get  blocked and filled with fluid. This condition causes  the growth of bacteria, which leads to infection  and, later, to the inflammation of the sinuses. This  medical condition is known as (bacterial) sinusitis  or rhinosinusitis, where ‘rhino’ means ‘nose.’  

Causes and symptoms of sinusitis 

Sinusitis is usually caused by the common cold,  seasonal allergies, dust, pollen, and moulds, and by  a weak immune system. The following are typical  symptoms of sinusitis: 

•  Mucus dripping down the throat  

•  Thick yellow or green nasal discharge  •  Stuffy nose  

•  Facial pressure and pain around the nose, eyes,  and forehead  

•  Pain in the teeth and ears  

•  Sneezing, bad breath, cough, tiredness, fever,  and congestion 

People having nasal allergies, nasal polyps, asthma,  and an abnormal nose structure, and smokers are  more susceptible to sinus infection. 

Practise for 16 minutes, thrice a day.  

• Apaan Mudra  

Apaan Mudra eliminates toxins  

and curbs the growth of bacteria.  

Touch the tips of the middle finger  

and the ring finger to the tip of  

the thumb. Keep the remaining  

two fingers comfortably straight.  

Place your palms on the thighs.  

Apaan Mudra 

Practise for 16–30 minutes, twice a day.  

• Soorya Mudra  

Soorya Mudra helps to dry the fluid filled in the  sinuses.  

Touch the tip of the ring finger  

to the root of the thumb. Press  

the thumb on the back of the ring  

finger. Keep the remaining three  

fingers comfortably straight.  

Place your palms on the thighs.  

Practise for 16 minutes, twice or  thrice a day. .  

Soorya Mudra 

Mudras 63

• Vyaan Mudra 

Vyaan Mudra cleanses the spaces in the sinuses.  

Touch the tips of the middle finger and the index finger to the tip of the thumb. Keep the  remaining two fingers comfortably straight. Place your palms on the thighs.  

Practise for 16 minutes, twice or thrice a day.  

Caution: Avoid practising this mudra after sunset as it may disturb your sleep. • Kuber Mudra  

Vyaan Mudra 

Forceful and deep inhalation while practising Kuber Mudra helps to ease breathing.  

Press the tips of the little finger and the ring finger to the middle region of the palm.  Touch the tips of the middle finger and the index finger to the tip of the thumb. Place  your palms on the thighs.  

Practise for 16 minutes, twice a day. 

Kuber Mudra 

• Shankh Mudra +Bhramar Mudra (combination) 

Shankh Mudra 

Place the tip of the right thumb on the hill under the left thumb. Wrap all four fingers of  the left palm around the right thumb. Touch the tip of the right index finger to the tip of  the left thumb. Rest the remaining three fingers of the right palm on the back of the left  palm. (One can switch the hands.)  

Practise for 16 minutes, twice a day along with Bhramar Mudra.  

• Bhramar Mudra 

Shankh Mudra 

Place the tip of the index finger on the root of the thumb. Touch the tip of the middle  finger to the inner side of the nail of the thumb. Stretch the remaining two fingers out.  Place your palms on the thighs. 

Practise for 10 minutes, twice a day after Shankh Mudra.
