Conscious Walking
Terms like meditation, mindfulness, yoga, and awareness have become mainstream these days, thanks to the popularity they have acquired in recent times. Plenty of meditation and mindfulness techniques abound in spiritual circles and people can take their pick.
Yet, meditation still doesn’t happen easily to people because sitting quietly and trying to still the mind is often considered more difficult than climbing Mt Kilimanjaro.
For such people, Brahmarishi Mohanji has created a technique called Conscious or the Dynamic Walking Meditation technique that is getting increasingly popular amongst the seekers.
The philosophy behind Conscious Walking (CW) is linked heavily to ancient Vedic and Buddhist principles and practices. It works on multiple levels, bringing you to present moment awareness.
Says Mohanji, “Most of us live in the future, which causes negligence of the present and anxiety over the future. Conscious Walking signifies being in the present and being in your own aura field. When energy circulates within your own aura field, most of the acquired blockages are dissolved.
“30 minutes of Conscious Walking can be as effective as three hours of sitting meditation. Furthermore, some people may find this easier and more natural than sitting meditation.
The technique involves walking barefoot on the grass surrounded by greenery and blooming flowers, where your eyes are filled with beauty and life. As you step forward, you pay attention to your muscle movement. At the same time, after drawing the touch of the grass and the pressure through the heel of your right foot your chest moves upwards as you inhale and as you lift your left hip, drawn up by the left muscle and your weight switches to your left side and you exhale as you push the weight into the ground through the ball of your foot and toes.
Quoting Conscious walking as an ‘unavoidable gift’, Biljana Vozarevic, one of the disciples of Mohanji from Serbia, says, “Conscious Walking is strengthening my bond to my inner self and increasing my love for myself in its very true sense. I have walked, I walk, and I am going to walk consciously in the future too.”
