Dear Reader,

We had barely entered 2019 and half the year has already gone by in the blink of an eye.

When I look at life, I feel as though we are writing an examination. No matter how much we try to relax and take it easy, an inner clock keeps reminding us that we have many dreams to realise and limited time to bring them to fruition; therefore, we must act fast.

If we only consider our material gains, then the tick-tock of this subconscious clock can make us antsy, stressed, or separate us from life’s small pleasure. But if we give prime focus to our spiritual progress, then surprisingly, we reach our material goals too in far less time than anticipated, without missing out on the small joys of life. This I say from personal experience. I had devoted all my energies to genuine spiritual inquiry at a time when others of my ilk were busy making careers, but I was still able to achieve a strong career footing even though I had started very late. Spiritual work had made me emotionally and intellectually strong, and I used these strengths to move ahead in life.

The lead story for July is on the much misinterpreted virtue of humility. In today’s competitive world, where the one who brags gets all the attention and admiration, humility has very few takers. Humble people are considered self-effacing, easy to walk over, and hence prone to being taken advantage of. However, real humility arises from great inner strength, wisdom, and a deep connection with the Universe. When you feel secure and confident from within, humility becomes a natural offshoot of your personality. Enjoy the article.

This year, we are celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a world leader, whose real message is getting increasingly lost in the din of factionalism and sectarianism plaguing this world. Dr Suman Agarwal, a lone Gandhian scholar and warrior, describes how the deep study of Gandhi transformed her life and gave her the conviction that embracing his philosophy is the best way to heal this world knifed by anger, hate, and violence. Savour her story.

Wishing you a blissful July.
