Living as love

Living as love
Love is life itself—a force that can take us to greater heights, says Megha Bajaj

Sometimes, I feel we underestimate love. We seem to have confined it, largely, to expressions, cards, communication, physical intimacy, and relationships. Whereas love is actually much beyond. When love is seen as a feeling, it culminates into expressions. When love is let loose as expressions, it results in relationships. However, what if we could go beyond these—and see love as a force? As that which has created the world, and sustains it too; as the purest vibrations available to us. When this happens, love ceases to be constricted to just a passing feeling. Rather, it becomes an existential gift which brings us closer to ourselves, to others, and to The Divine.

I have been doing a series of biographies on men and women whom I find remarkable—people leading holistic lives and those who are torchbearers for all others. And I noticed that all of them, despite all the perceived differences, have one thing in common: they have a love for something which supersedes everything else. And this love becomes that force which nurtures them, nourishes them, and empowers them to achieve extraordinary feats.

The Mahatma’s love for freedom for his country empowered him to undertake numerous fasts and topple over an empire with every resource possible. Steve Jobs’ love for technology and experimenting makes Apple one of the most sought-after companies, even after he is gone. Bill Gates’ love for humanity is enabling so much good to happen in the world. My own spiritual mentor Mahatria’s every breath seems to be dedicated to telling the world that we must live a life of holistic abundance.

The more I think about it, the more I realise that love has been my power too. From being told that I would never learn English by none other than my English teacher to now being the author of so many books; from my mother being given a few days to live when she was diagnosed with Stage IV brain cancer in 2013 to not just being alive, but excitedly alive, even today (as a blazing example of the power of love), love has played a very dominant role in my life.

I use love as my life-force. It is my spinach, my Superman’s cape. Whenever there is a project that is not coming through, I think of the ways in which it will impact people and how my work is nothing but my love in action; and somehow, everything comes through. Whenever I am going through a bad health phase, I have always held onto the belief that I need to be healthy so I can love so many more. And somehow, I have always bounced back younger and fitter than ever before. Love for me is not just about what I feel in relationships. It is that thin layer around my being which provides oxygen to everything I do.

I really believe there are no bad people, as such. There are only people who have somehow forgotten or lost the power of love within them. If love is alive in us and purifying us in every moment, the lower emotions cannot touch us for long, failures can’t upset our plans indefinitely, and life can be nothing but a dream.

I am reminded of the beautiful Marc Anthony and Tina Robbins song: I want to spend my lifetime loving you. I realise, today, the ‘you’ here to me is nothing but life itself.

I often wonder: “Am I awake or dreaming?” Such is the power of love.
