Music That Matters By Various Artists, Produced by New Vision Music, Download only (iTunes, Amazon, Google Music Store) – $9.99

Music That Matters leads you to ponder over things that matter – the sun rising in the distant horizon, the innocence of a child, the relationship that you share with the Divine, seemingly mundane but significant things which one takes for granted. The freshness of this album pulls you out of the deep slumber of unconsciousness into awareness.

It’s rare that 36 international artists come together to create a compilation that transports you to a world of peace, love, tranquillity and oneness. The album is a blend of various songs from across the world, including some of the best works of nine Grammy-nominated artists. It features songs by David Lanz, Phil Coulter, Nancy Rumbel, and so on. Music That Matters is an initiative under LoveLight, a non-profit programme by New Vision Music based in Texas, which helps the underprivileged children and youth of South Africa.

This New Age fusion album opens with Fiona Joy’s Snow bird that brings in a sense of calm while giving way to the light, foot-tapping Rhythm of the desert by Eric Tingstad. Atmosphere by Paul Adams has a meditative quality infused by the use of two flutes playing at two different planes. Karunesh’s Vishnu is an ethereal rendition of Vishnu-naama chanting and stands out for its earthiness. To watch a pond by Stephen Peppos is your perfect meditation music choice that calms the mind into stillness. The whole album is an amazing amalgamation of various styles of music held together by the underlying current of deep relaxation. What’s more, this album makes for quite a thoughtful present for a loved one.

A word for music aficionados – do listen to this album, if only for the sheer variety of fusion music!
