Soul succour

When caught in an imbroglio, spiritual solutions can come to the rescue, says Megha Bajaj

In the recent past I was faced with a situation that left a very bitter taste in my mouth. I have never really had enemies. I have shared a love or a neutral relationship with most people. Hatred is something I have neither indulged in, nor experienced. However, lately, a project gone wrong led to someone feeling furious with me.

I have never dealt with threats and abusive language so it all came as a huge shock to me. I didn’t know such a world existed – and yet suddenly I had become a part of this  – the single target of vile and vicious rumours. I just didn’t know where to go, or what to do.

As a seeker, I have always believed that when the mind or the heart have no answer, it is the soul that provides relief. For long hours, I would sit in meditation and pray for things to dissolve. I went through a series of emotions. From anger to depression, resentment to frustration. I didn’t know whom to turn to – because it was a decision I had taken for my team. I was responsible, and I had to see it through.

In the last two weeks, I have visited lawyers, policemen, and what not. There were moments that shook me to the core of my being. There was nastiness that broke my heart into a million pieces and I wondered, can this ever resolve?

Meditation became one of my deepest reprieves, and I would turn to it when nothing else made sense. It would calm me, centre me, and allow me to live my life as normally as I could. In time, as most emotions began to settle, and peace started becoming stronger than the sea of thoughts and feelings, finally the answer came. I realised that if  I were to view the situation in a purely spiritual manner, and understand how to resolve it, it may actually lead to a breakthrough.

The very first spiritual solution to being in a really scary situation was actually to stop  feeling scared

The first thing I realised was that negative emotions by their very nature are very heavy. They weigh you down. They stop you from action. They attract more negativity into your life. So the very first spiritual solution to being in a really scary situation was actually to stop feeling scared. Of course it is easier said than done but having been through it myself, I can say that when you keep holding on to a powerful happy memory, a very powerful happy thought and emotion, long enough – it starts taking over. The key words are “long enough” and “strong enough” – the good has to overcome the bad and for that it has to be both of these. The second thing I realised was that to obtain any solution in the spiritual space, one needed to stop all reactivity, and immerse one’s self in the deepest acceptance, love and forgiveness of the person concerned. That’s the only way to get the laws of the Universe to work for you and not against. Again, hard to do but when you consistently do it, in time, you can see the other person like a child who doesn’t know better. You understand, you did go wrong too. You can see the entire situation as an observer rather than a participant and this makes things easier. I am still not out of this situation. However, I am feeling so much happier, so much more empowered and “okay” with it – that it has stopped being the biggest block in my life. Rather, it seems like a small part of my beautiful life that is not so beautiful.

No matter what situation we are in, I have come to realise spiritual solutions are possible. And whether they give us the desired outcome or not, they make the entire journey so much merrier – and just for that they are worth exploring.
