Striving for universal peace

May 2016

According to Sunyogi Uma Sankar, “every problem – individual or global – has a spiritual solution and our true self, which is the source of peace, intelligence, wisdom and creativity, has the potential to discover that solution.”

To propagate this universal principle, Sunyogi’s West Bengal-based Universal Peace Centre Trust organised the 16th Universal Peace Conference from March 13-15 in the India Habitat Centre, Delhi, in partnership with Life Positive Foundation. The aim of this conference was to ponder on extremely relevant topics of global concern like individual and universal peace, spirituality and environment, oneness in religion, oneness in science and technology, and spirituality and yoga.

D R Kaarthikeyan, President, Life Positive magazine and Chairman, Life Positive Foundation, chaired the conference. “There is so much of intolerance in the world today. This universal Peace Conference by Sunyogiji has come at a very opportune time. We need universality of existence; we need peace in our lives. Unless we live in harmony, we will destroy each other. For achieving global peace and harmony, we need peace and harmony within the smallest units of the society.”

The three-day event saw around 30 participants, from all across the globe, start their day early morning with Sun Meditation under the able guidance of Sunyogi Uma Sankar in the verdant Lodi Garden. Refreshed and charged thereafter, the proceedings moved on to sessions on topics ‘protecting environment from global warming’, ‘science, spirituality, technology and yoga’, ‘promoting humanity, youth, individual and family life’, ‘philosophical, scientific and spiritual explanation of sun yoga’, ‘oneness in marg’. All the three evenings ended with cultural programmes, mainly bhajans, presented by Delhi-based Shakya Anand and Pune-based Meeta Shah.
