The freedom to love
Dear Reader,
One of the most eye-opening revelations to me after I entered the path was the knowledge that all of life is interconnected. It opened the floodgates of possibilities for me. It also taught me to see myself in others. I realised how everything began with me, and if I wanted to be treated fairly and kindly by the world, I needed to extend the same treatment to others with genuine affection. Simply being civil and cordial was not enough; the human heart wanted to be genuinely appreciated for what it was. An unprecedented flow of kinship and love birthed in my heart for my fellow human beings, and it suffices to say that life has treated me very kindly after this realisation. Not only that, this love was able to transmute into love for the whole of Creation, gradually. So now, even if I have to scold, admonish, or be firm with others, the love behind this act ensures that I don’t get a backlash. This has freed me from the disappointments of expectation-borne love that many find themselves trapped in. For me, true freedom is the freedom to love wholly, unconditionally, and freely.
This Independence Day, instead of getting busy with our routine affairs after hoisting the national flag, why don’t we take out a few minutes to think what freedom actually means to each one of us? And what have we done to get closer to our idea of freedom? The more we introspect, the closer we will get to our true Self
and our life-purpose. Wishing you all the very best for your journey within.
Have a happy August.
