what is self-discipline. Making a routing in your life and following it. You decide to get up at some time, do some activity at some time, you have made a schedule, you follow a schedule…office college school, that is discipline. People go and come out at a time & follow the schedule. Get in to schedule require rajas and energy, once you get into schedule, it becomes a routine, that is discipline. Get into routine ultimately, you must do it because you have accepted it, so, follow it. When someone change the office, he must get into that schedule, that means he must apply force, again rajas because that company will not work as per your schedule. You must again get into schedule, that’s why frequent change of job causes lot of disturbance to the person but one must change at appropriate time not very frequently, it causes lot of turmoil stress to the system. So, any time you want to force the body to get into a schedule it requires rajas, rajas means application of force, without application of force you cannot get into track. So, what is the thing to understand here is the element of force in world here is discipline, it may be high or low, depends how you accept it. So, whenever you say I must do it, I must do this and that, forcing the body it causes lot of stress and when you get adjusted to the routing it becomes a choice, there is no stress. So initially we have to apply force to get into schedule, then you do by choice. There is an automatic programming which is taking place, so lot of people are disciplined because of office work they may not be taking care of their own health so well, their health may be deteriorating, their bp may be rising, they may be getting type 2 diabetes, becoming obese, they may be getting muscular skeleton system problem, asthmatic problem which automatically means they are not adjust to the schedule or frequent change in the schedule or turmoil which is happening in the schedule or demands which are changing around continuously, may be home front or office, not able to adjust to it, getting stressed and strained not able to take adequate rest, lifestyle change, that mean body is deteriorating, this is what is happening, but if you choose to do all of these activities in a planned manner, in a well-disciplined manner and come into rhythm, that helps you come into rhythm than you can handle lot of crisis situations without going into stress, you can avoid panic reaction, get into skilfulness and action, this is part of the virtue Accurate perception and correct expression, so discipline helps you come into routing/rhythm then you can handle situation outside your routine easily. If you are disoriented in present things, forcing everything, new change appears to be too much stress, even a small change. Inability to handle crisis, a leader must be able to handle crisis that is also part of the schedule to certain extent. Going to office, following a schedule, you have to do it otherwise you will be questioned, you have to give explanation, you will be pin pointed, so you have to follow the schedule, some people don’t follow it properly then they are questioned, so those who follow the schedule and don’t want to be pin pointed they are disciplined but they are working under fear pressure, they are working because of consequences of law, consequences of punishment, so disciplined but still under pressure, whereas self-disciplined means you decide what has to be done, you decide for yourself this is what is my duty, you understand this is my karmic obligation, this is good for me, this is what is required for my path, this is what is my routine to make myself fit and contribute optimally towards family and world that is call self-disciplined. Nobody monitors you then also you follow the schedule. You have made a schedule for yourself for example you decide to follow the activities already there in the schedule, you do all the required things to do the activities, waking up on time, exercising, taking right diet etc. self-discipline people are target oriented, task oriented and if you are self-disciplined you will be successful in your endeavors without causing any kind of stress, follow moderation, give proper rest to the physical body, don’t strain, don’t overload the body.
