Hemp on the horizon

Hemp on the horizon

For a long time, hemp seeds and their nutritional benefits have been overlooked in mainstream medicine because of hemp’s botanical relationship with cannabis as a recreational drug. However, contrary to popular misconception, hemp seeds don’t cause any reaction. Instead, it provides significant health benefits.

To generate awareness about the nutritional benefits of hemp, Delhi-based young entrepreneurs Rohit Shah, Kartikey Dadoo, and Kanishk Yadav came up with an incredible idea of starting a food manufacturing company called Hemp Horizon, in July 2017. “We have been using hemp products since a long time and are aware of the incredible benefits it imparts,” says Rohit.

Hemp seeds are small, white, nutty seeds, full of minerals and healthy fats. They are rich with edestine and albumin, considered ‘high-quality storage proteins’. They even house a significant amount of over 18 essential amino acids and have omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids in the most optimum ratio of 3:1.

Hemp Horizon’s current range of products consists of sativa nubs, sativa oil, and sativa protein. Sativa nubs are raw, shredded, and processed seeds, free of additives. They can be consumed raw, cooked, sprouted, or roasted. Nubs can be added to fruits and vegetable smoothies to add vitamins like A, B, C, D, E, and calcium and iron. They are also a good source of dietary fibre.

Sativa oil is delicious, cold-pressed, and unrefined hemp oil which can be used in smoothies, salads, vegetables, and pasta, imparting a delicate, nutty flavour too.
