No more excuses
No more excuses!
Mohanji implores us to consider global devastation a ‘burning’ issue—for which we are responsible—and act to contain it urgently
Fires have burned much flora and fauna and changed the climate pattern of the world irrevocably. And the reason? Human greed and insensitivity. We are leaving behind a world much worse than we inherited. Who is to blame? Education? Society? Religion? What has created this insensitive mindset? It could be the greed factor built into the system of education, where money is more important than ethics. Responsibilities are weak.
One scenario: Man created religions. Religions created gods, messiahs, masters, prophets. They all divided people with fears, dogmas, concepts, and prejudices. They gave licenses to own earth and all that belonged to earth. Humanity died completely.
Another scenario: All beings have the basic instinct for survival. Every being weaves their life around this instinct. But only human beings have an exaggerated sense of the survival instinct, which is centred around the ego. All other beings have pretty much uncomplicated, straightforward expressions of the survival instinct. The fire that fuels life is the basic instinct, the survival instinct. The exaggerated human insensitive survival instinct is what burns the forests of our world. This is possible only for one species, the so-called ‘highly evolved’ human species.
The price is too heavy to pay— the survival of generations and permanent damage to the very platform that numerous beings use for experiencing their respective incarnations. Moreover, perverted pleasures like hunting are wiping out many species, and the same greed is perpetuating diseases caused by unheard-of viruses like the coronavirus. Apparently, this disease is caused by consuming wild animals. Why would we do that? Habit? Taste? Superstition? We are more destructive than the coronavirus! We, who are supposedly more refined than all other species, are responsible for the state of the earth. We cannot continue to remain as the dominant and the most dangerous species on earth and hope to have a good life.
It is time we got our act together. No excuses any more! We must educate ourselves and our children. We need to stop talking only about our rights and start talking about our responsibilities. We cannot set our house on fire and fool ourselves into thinking it gives heat and light. When the fire has burnt our species down, this earth will be an uninhabitable barren land. We are indeed playing with fire. Our children must become aware of this. We really owe them an apology for giving them a world of devastation and senseless greed. Just like man made the dodo extinct, trigger-happy people are annihilating the big five species of Africa and much more.
Hypothetically, a more refined species, which is not biased and blinded by religious dogmas, would consider us from the dark ages. We are to blame for the viruses and health conditions that we dragged on to our own species. It is time to think. It is time to quench the fire.
